Sensational Superfood at Searcys, Selfridges

This week I was lucky enough to be invited to the preview of the new menu at The Balcony by Searcys in Selfridges. If you don’t know about The Balcony, it’s located on the fourth floor of Selfridges, aka the designer floor where you can also buy the Chiara Ferragni Sparkly shoes I always wear ;). The Balcony is an intimate and stylish bar and restaurant, perfect for refuelling whilst you’re shopping. I had to admit I had never been to the Balcony before and after attending the menu preview there the other day it’s safe to say that I’m sure it will be my new destination for lunch when I’m spending my student loan in the Bullring.

The theme of the menu is Feel Good Food and Fabulous Drinks, and after sampling the food and drinks I can assure you that the new menu definitely lives up to its name.

On arrival, we were presented with ‘Goji Blush’ cocktails. They were lovely and refreshing and were made using organic vodka, goji berry liqueur, honey, lemon juice and prosecco. They just taste like summer and will be perfect to sip on a hot day – I know wishful thinking but you never know with the four seasons a day weather we’ve been getting lately.  Plus, the ingredients used make them healthy cocktails (well as healthy as a cocktail can be short of being a green tea), so you can’t really refuse them can you? As well as cocktails, we were given a glass of Searcy’s house champagne and some English fizz straight from Albury Organic vineyard in Surrey.

After a few cocktails and a few glasses of bubbly it was ready to sample some of the feed good food from the new menu. The menu has been carefully put together to include food that is healthy, sustainable and seasonal.

For an appetizer, there is avocado on toast flavoured with coriander and chilli. I don’t know about you but I’m obsessed with avocado at the moment so as you can imagine this went down a treat.  We also had a chance to try a detox jar full of goodness. Expect a cute little jar with blueberries, pomegranate, cauliflower, carrot, cabbage and red quinoa, guaranteed to leave you feeling healthy and satisfied.

For those of you who prefer something a bit more wholesome, then go for the cheeseburger made from beef sourced from the Lake District and Applewood cheese, which was cooked to perfection. However, my personal favourite of the evening was the butternut squash curry with cauliflower couscous (it sounds strange but trust me it’s a real culinary delight). The curry had so much flavour and packed the right amount of punch – not too mild but not too spicy, that perfect in-between that can often be hard to find. The cauliflower couscous also made for a nice and healthy alternative to rice.

After all this beautiful food, we were presented with a superfruit salad for dessert. This one wins full marks for presentation. The carefully chosen super fruits are perfectly placed in a martini glass and make for a great Instagram photo and an even greater treat for your taste buds. Personally, I found that after the curry it made a lovely sweet dessert to cleanse the palate.

So, next time that you’re in the bullring and fancy a healthy, delicious lunch in an elegant and stylish setting than head straight over to Searcys at Selfridges. They also do Afternoon Tea and have a more extensive food and drinks menu if nothing above takes your fancy.

Gone are the days where my shopping break would include a snack from Superdrug, now I’ll be heading to Searcys at the Balcony to have some sensational superfood, who’s joining me?
